Losing hope

During my last treatment, my doctor told me that she thought it was best that we take a break from treatments. My scar didn't seem to be improving, and she didn't know what else we could do.
She suggested that I seek radiation therapy as my next approach but because I'm still 25 (and want kids in my future), radiation isn't for me. It weighed on me heavily on what I should do. Radiation therapy might not work, and I'd be risking a whole lot...

Since my last doctor's visit, my scar had seemed to improve tremendously. Even the edges are starting to flatten. I really want to continue cortison injections, but my doctor wants me to take a 3 month break. I am a little worried because now that I am seeing improvements, I don't want to give up. I don't feel very supported by my doctor but I don't have very many options because I can't afford to see anyone else. I'm sad because she's been there since my surgery, and I feel as if she's losing hope for my scar.

Trying to stay positive when I have negative energy around me. I need to believe that my scar will heal.

For now, cortison tape and silicon sheets 24 hours.

  1. Have you ever tried skincerity on it?

  2. One of my keloids look exactly like yours. Four years of cortisone injections helped flatten them but I do get some regrowth or retightening of the scar. Before the injections, a light touch to my keloid felt like a punch to the throat and the cortisone injections stopped the pain completely.

    1. Are you continuing your injections? I stopped treatment for the past year (my doctor recommended that I stop, and then I ran out of health insurance), but am planning on seeing a new doctor starting next month.

Will we be getting injections forever?

  3. I have been dealing with a Keloid scar for 15 years now. I recently started laser treatments in combination with Kenalog injections and that seems to be helping so far. Hang in there, I know first hand how frustrating this process can be, but don't give up!

    1. Are laser treatments helping? Can I get laser treatments at the hospital, or do I have to go to a special facility? Please keep my posted on your treatment progress.

  4. Hi,

Like you, I have been dealing with keloids, but mine is in a much worse public area than yours: the neck. I just want to tell you that many people have had much worse keloids and overcame them eventually, with patience, effort, and diligence. Nothing in life is ever easy... Just please don't give up! We need to keep fighting, because if others could do it, then so can we. There is a way.

For now, I would also recommend taking an anti-inflammatory diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, and less protein such as red meat and chicken. In addition, taking an enzyme called serrapeptase might work. Apparently it helps break down unwanted protein which I assume would also target the fibrous scar tissue in keloids. Good luck!!! You are not in this alone.

    1. David,
Thank you for the kind words. I will def take your advice, and cut the protein down. Where can I get Serrapeptase? Drugstore?

How is your treatment process going? #fighting!

    2. So I've actually tried the serrapeptase, and after a while I simply stopped because I didn't see much progress, if any at all. That's not to say it was a complete waste of time - you try and you learn from these sorts of things.

Honestly, from my experience the best thing you can really do is go see a specialist. Not a doctor; a keloid specialist. Where exactly do you live? I could perhaps give you a few recommendations based on your area. I'm only familiar with California (because that's my home state) and NY (because I go to school near here)!

Keep fighting! I have complete faith that you'll one day get rid of it. See AScarredBeauty's blog - it is fantastic and a good source of moral support from people like us. Also, her doctor is one of the best keloid specialists I've met and heard of.

    3. Hi David!! Thanks for the supportive words of encouragement! I'm def going to keep at it---I would love to hear some of your recommendations (keloid specialists).

I'm in California, Bay Area. Do you know if there's anyone around here?

Christy (ascarredbeauty) and I go way back---haha. She actually found my blog in her early blog days, and I've definitely kept up with her story. I know her dr is in San Diego, and I don't think I would be able to commute that far---although, I might just have to...

How is your scar treatment going?

  5. So glad I found this blog. I am pretty much in your exact situation and would love to chat with you about your update and recovery. I have had 3 keloids for at least 25 years. The one on my chest was always the most painful and after lots of injections I just had it surgically removed this past Friday so I am 5 days post-op. I haven't found many people in my situation and would love to connect with you to get your story on what has or hasn't helped. My email is sgunning@att.net

  7. Keloids happen from the overgrowth of scar tissue. Keloids Symptoms happen at a site of previous skin damage. Natural Herbs Clinic is a resource where you can easily obtain Keloids Natural Treatment without any side effects.

  8. The keloids symptoms include raised tissue that is generally accompanied by tough itching, sharp, needle-like pains, and changes in texture, although the degree of all these depends upon the individual and the harshness of the keloids.

  9. Hi I'm definitely in the same keloid boat you all are in. I have one on my chest that seems to be growing longer, a huge one on my shoulder a couple flatter ones on my backside. It really is quite depressing sometimes but not something to dwell on. I've had these for about fifteen years now, well my chest more recently (5ish years). I think I'm becoming more aware of it now as it's quite irritated lately and well I'm getting married and would love for them to deflate so to speak. I'm trying natural solutions cause I tried the steroid & kenalog shots ten years ago and they didn't do much for me. Have you tried the natural treatments at all?

  11. Wheat Germ Oil from Standard Process has personally helped me immensely. It has alleviated the pain and completely healed a few of them. Dr. Cori Stern is the only doctor who has given me great results. I suffered with multiple keilod on my chest and back for 8 years now and this is the first treatment I've found that has changed the condition of the scar. It also alleviates the pain and itch.

In order to get a whiter complexion after treatment, skin whitening works to lessen the melanin pigment in the skin. The amount of melanin influences a person's skin colour because those with darker complexions have more of it. Melanocytes are the cells that produce melanin. The amount of melanin in a person's skin is determined by their genetic makeup. The degree of skin damage, sun exposure, and contact with chemical agents all contribute to pigmentation.
